This is a stunning, authentic late-Victorian to early Edwardian era plush vanity presentation casket. The exterior is wrapped in its original, vibrant peacock-blue/teal plush velvet fabric. The lid features a gorgeous ornate silver-tone metal cartouche plaque ready to be monogrammed, along with protective antique corner brackets and a unique scalloped decorative clasp.
The interior opens up to a beautifully preserved, heavily tufted and padded teal satin lining fixed with miniature blue glass pin-beads. The center features built-in elasticized satin loops originally designed to hold a vanity tool set (such as a celluloid or sterling silver manicure kit).
This is an exceptional character piece for collectors of Victorian boudoir decor, antique jewelry storage, or historical vanity sets.
Condition: Good. The exterior velvet shows significant crushing, balding/nap wear on the corners, and fading/discoloration consistent with a century of handling.
